Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2 has announced its OTT release date. The film, which clashed with Gadar 2 at the box office in August, is set to release on Netflix on October 8. The announcement was made by the platform on Tuesday via Instagram. “We’ve got great news for you, and OMG can you tell we’re 2 excited? #OMG2 arrives 8 October on Netflix,” the platform wrote. Fans took to the comments section and requested the platform to release the uncut version.
“Release it without the censor board cuts,” a social media user wrote. “Is this the extended uncensored cut that was promised?” asked another. “Pls release the uncut version ,” requested another. However, director Amit Rai has confirmed that the online release is not the uncensored version. Speaking with Hindustan Times, he not only shared the heartbreaking news but also slammed CBFC. His new statement comes just a month after
For the unversed, OMG 2 was released in theatres with 27 cuts by the Censor Board. Last month, he promised that he would release the complete version online. However, there have been change of plans. Addressing the same, Amit said Netflix is not ready to stream the uncut version. “I don’t know what their apprehensions are. They (the streaming platform) will show the same version that the Censor Board passed. Ab ispe aur kya hi kar sakte hain? Saare desh ne chilla chilla ke bola par phir bhi Censor Board ko sunaayi nahin de raha, toh koi kuch nahin kar sakta.” He added that several crucial scenes were edited out, including scenes that were aimed at educating people about sex and masturbation.
OMG 2 is the sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2012 film, Oh My God. The actor plays the role a messenger of Lord Shiva in the movie. The film was put on hold by the Censor Board and about 27 changes were directed to the filmmakers. After making the changes, OMG 2 was given an ‘Adults Only (A)’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). OMG 2 also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in key roles.
