An old video which has resurfaced once again on ‘X’ shows women dangerously traveling in Mumbai local. Time and again we see videos from the Mumbai local that shock people and this is no exception. Although it is an old video but it has still raised concerns. The video shows half of the women hanging outside the door while the train is moving slowly. ‘X’ user who goes by the name ‘Cow Momma’ uploaded this video on his social media handle. With this, he highlighted that this is not the ‘spirit’ of anything. Meaning, usually the overcrowded Mumbai local train is considered to be the spirit of ‘Mayanagri’. However, the ‘X’ user completely defied the notion.

“This is NOT the ‘spirit’ of anything! This is common people risking their lives everyday literally just to survive!” he wrote. He further mentioned, “The Bombay spirit we all talk about is the resilience that PEOPLE have, INSPITE of their daily struggles. It is the finding of safety and community, with each other. NOT this apathy of the govt and terrible civic services.” Here, have a look at the video:

The video has sparked discussion on ‘X’ about the safety of women and the spirit of the city. Since being uploaded, it has garnered over 213K views. “EXACTLY!! And they end up normalizing the insane risk because they are forced into this every day. It’s either this or starvation,” wrote an ‘X’ user. Another person mentioned, “Having traveled all the metros I can confidently say Mumbai is the most overrated city. Govt and local administration have always been glorifying all the hustle people go through under the melodramatic statements “Mumbai never sleeps” or “Spirit of Mumbai” justifying all the pain.”
EXACTLY!! And they end up normalizing the insane risk because they are forced into this every day. It's either this or starvation.— Mo (@Mob3One) September 17, 2023
I used to travel like this pre covid, now i get stuck stuck in traffic because lawmakers can't figure out a way a way to build a metro faster until elections are near. Both scenarios are bad because of the "Spirit" that's been romantisised and celebrated.— Sidharth Sanjeev (@iamsidi23) September 17, 2023
Saw another video where the background music was set to “yeh hai mumbai meri jaan” to romanticise lack of transportation. This is life threatening daily transport for these people— Nisha Venugopal (@nisha_venugopal) September 17, 2023
This is scary , minimum thing a government can provide is safe public infrastructure, decent healthcare etc . They spend too much on other things always— Sajan Hussain (@iamsajanhussain) September 17, 2023
It’s a shame that in a region that needs many more trains, no trains are being provided.— Iqbal Singh (@Iqbal0866) September 17, 2023
