Neetu Kapoor shared a surprising detail about her late husband, actor Rishi Kapoor on Koffee With Karan 8. The actress appeared on Karan Johar’s show with Zeenat Aman and was seen revisiting the days when she and Rishi were dating. Neetu told Karan that Rishi was a ‘strict boyfriend’ and did not allow her to party hard. She remembered that when she would shoot with Yash Chopra, they used to have late night parties. However, she never partied hard because Rishi would set restrictions.
“We had a fabulous time, especially with Yash ji (Chopra). We would party in the night, play antakshari, play dumb charades. So, that was like one picnic. That was really-really fun. But I had this Rishi Kapoor as my boyfriend. So, I never partied-partied. Because he was always like, yeh nahi karna, woh nahi karna, ghar aajao. So, I’ve never seen that wild side of partying in those days,” Neetu Kapoor said.
“I was committed and I had a very strict mother and a very strict boyfriend. So, I was torn between both of them,” she added.
Neetu dated Rishi for a while before they got engaged on April 13, 1979. They eventually tied the knot on January 22, 1980. Neetu stepped away acting following her wedding. The couple welcomed two children, daughter Riddhima and son Ranbir Kapoor, which led to Neetu taking a backseat from acting.
Rishi was diagnosed with leukaemia and battled it for two years. He was getting treatment in New York, where Neetu and Ranbir were by his side. Alia Bhatt, who is now married to Ranbir, would also often visit them. The trio returned to India in 2019 but Rishi was rushed to the hospital in Mumbai in April 2020, where he passed away.
Neetu opened up about his final years as well on the show and said that they were one of the most memorable years of her life.
