It was a double whammy for Team India at Wankhede stadium as not only thousands of fans thronged to witness the World Cup Semi Finals between India and New Zealand but also because several stars like Rajinikanth, Anushka Sharma, John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor and others took out time from their hectic schedule to cheer for the blue jerseys. Among them was also Madhuri Dixit and her husband Dr Shriram Nene. The latter has now shared a reel featuring the star couple posing with all the stellar attendees, along with a note of appreciation for Team India.
On Wednesday, Dr Shriram Nene and Madhuri Dixit shared a reel which consisted of snaps featuring them with Anushka Sharma and Rajinikanth, who had come to cheer for the boys in blue. The clip also consisted of glimpses where Virat Kohli can be seen celebrating his record-breaking inning during the India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup Semi Finale as well as a selfie with David Beckham.
The caption read, “And there u have it. Congrats #TeamIndia. What a fabulous showing by our boys in Blue. Nice way to end #Shami. Congrats to @virat.kohli for back to back centuries and 50 ODI centuries overall, and breaking the Master Blaster’s record. Hats off to @shreyasiyer96 for great batting. We loved the game today! Thank u for a magical experience.”
The highly anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final showdown between India and New Zealand was truly a spectacle at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat in the semi-final. Virat Kohli, who got out at 117 off 113 balls, has now surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single World Cup, going beyond Tendulkar’s 673 runs from the 2003 World Cup. The 35-year-old Kohli also clinched his century by scoring a two off fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. He faced 106 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, breaking the record of 49 ODI hundreds that he had shared with Sachin Tendulkar.
In response, New Zealand put up a spirited fight despite losing both their openers early on to the wicket-hungry Mohammed Shami. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, along with the centurian Daryl Mitchell, gave India a bit of a scare with a 181-run stand before Shami, who joined the Indian camp midway, returned in the 33rd over to hand New Zealand a double blow in the form of Williamson and Tom Latham. Mitchell, who build a partnership with Glenn Philips (41), perished for 134 to Shami in the 46th over sealing the fate of the Kiwis.
