Indian Army ‘SCARED’ Vicky Kaushal About Playing Sam Manekshaw in Sam Bahadur: ‘Theek Se Karna…’
Vicky Kaushal said that when you play an officer in the Indian Army and wear the uniform, you cannot take it lightly.

The trailer of Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film Sam Bahadur was released amid much anticipation on Tuesday, November 7, in New Delhi. Vicky Kaushal is all set to take on the role of India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the Meghna Gulzar directorial venture. At the event held at the Manekshaw Centre in the national capital, Vicky spoke about how he prepped for the role and the challenges he faced while playing an illustrious officer of the Indian Army.

Speaking about the challenges he faced to prep for this role, Vicky said, “Jab bhi Indian Army ki uniform peheni hoti hai na toh pehle jo responsibility ka ehsaas hota hai ki aap isko halke main nahi le sakte. Yeh aapko bohot shiddat ke saath, bohot sincerity ke saath aur bohot honesty ke saath nibhaana hoga (When you wear the Indian Army’s uniform, you feel a responsibility towards it and cannot take it lightly. You have to do it with utmost sincerity and honesty).”

The actor continued, “Mere liye sabse badi validation hoti hai when the army approves of my film and my performance when I wear my uniform. We have given it our all. With every minute detail, whether it’s a ribbon or a medal, I don’t think there’s any mistake at all. I used to meet the Indian Army and they were very encouraging and used to say that we are so happy that you’re doing this film. End main phir dara dete the, ‘Theek se karna, you’re playing our best man.'”

When someone asked him if Katrina Kaif had helped him prepare for the film, Vicky joked, “Ek magic recipe hai jo maine bataya nahi hai abhi tak. Har shot se pehle main phone karta tha aur voh mujhe pep talk deti thi aur phir main voh shot pe jaata tha. Nahi aisa kuch nahi hota tha (I have a secret magic recipe. I would call her for a pep talk before every shot. No, this would not happen).”

Sam Bahadur explores the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, emphasising his sacrifices for the nation. The film pays a heartfelt tribute to his unwavering bravery and sharp wit. For the unversed, Sam Manekshawan’s career in the army spanned over four decades and five wars. He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal and his military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh.

The film is scheduled to be released in theatres on December 1 this year.
