An emotional Johnny Lever was seen making his way to the Junior Mehmood’s funeral on Friday to pay his last respects. The actor, who has said that the veteran actor has been the inspiration behind his career, made his way to the funeral with his children, Jamie Lever and Jessy Lever. In a video shared on Instagram, Johnny was seen consoling a family member while he waited for the funeral procession.

The actor also met with other stars present at the funeral. Besides Johnny, singer Sudesh Bhosle was also present at the funeral. The paparazzi also spotted Raza Murad and Master Raju. Watch the video below:

Earlier this week, Johnny revealed he has been visiting Junior Mehmood everyday since he learnt about his stomach cancer. Speaking with ETimes, Johnny called the veteran actor his ‘best friend, like a brother’ and added that they share a family bond.

Best known for his role in movies like Caravan and Suhaag Raat, Junior Mehmood died at the age of 67. he was battling with cancer. It is reported that his condition worsened on Thursday night. He was rushed to the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai’s Parel area after his condition deteriorated. He was put on oxygen support but he couldn’t survive.

His friend Salam Kazi confirmed the news of his death to ETimes. He also revealed that the funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery. Junior Mehmood will be buried in the same cemetery as his mother. His family also issued a statement about his death. “Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace,” they said in a statement to Indian Express.

Who was Junior Mehmood?

Junior Mehmood, who was originally named Naeem Sayyed, shot to fame as a child artist. It is said that Mehmood was highly impressed with the Naeem’s work that he bestowed him when they worked in 1968’s Suhaag Raat with his screen name — Junior Mehmood. The star worked in several movies, including Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, Kati Patang, Hare Raama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Imaandaar, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, Gurudev, Chhote Sarkar and Judaai. He also had a brief TV career.
