Abhishek Recalls Amitabh Opening Door For Him After Dhoom Success Bash: 'I Was Like, You're Nothing'

While being the son of superstar Amitabh Bachchan has its perks. However, in Abhishek Bachchan’s case, it has also resulted in their acting prowess being compared over the years. Abhishek is most known for his role as the no-nonsense cop in the Dhoom franchise. In an earlier interview, he recalled the majesty he felt about himself when the first Dhoom film became a hit. However, Abhishek said that he was quickly humbled after Amitabh Bachchan himself opened the door for him and welcomed him home.

Talking to Anupama Chopra, Abhishek said, “I think it was the 5th of September in 2004, Dhoom had come out a week before and was declared this big hit. It was my first out-and-out success and Adi (Aditya Chopra) had kept a party. I remember, very early in the morning when the party got over and you know, we didn’t have a car or anything. So from the Marriott to my house is a five-minute walk. So I decided to walk and during that walk, you know, Mumbai was waking up and I was… I was this rock star, you know, I’ve given my hit and I’ve arrived.”

“You know, I had the swag, you know, the chest was out. People were stopping their cars, coming out, asking for autographs. People are stopping and waving and screaming. And I just felt like, dude! Move aside, I am here. And I remember I walked into my house through the gate, rang the doorbell, said they were going to open the door. I’m going to bed now like a King,” Abhishek said.

He added, “And my dad opened the door and he said, ‘Ah beta aagaye,’ and I said, ‘Amitabh Bachchan’. Deflated right there. I was like, that’s God. You’re nothing, man! I came home to that. I come home to these guys and they’re completely normal. He came out in his nightgown with his glasses and he’s reading the papers. That’s greatness. You’re nothing. So, you get a reality check every day.”

On the work front, Amitabh and Abhishek collaborated on a film after many years when the veteran actor was featured in a cameo in his son’s latest film Ghoomer.
