Zack Synder On Russo Brothers' MCU Return: 'Time To Shake It Up A Bit'
The Russo Brothers' return was confirmed at the Comic-Con event earlier this year along with Robert Downey Jr.'s re-entry.

One of the biggest Marvel revelations came with the announcement of Robert Downey Jr.’s return, known for his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark. At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Downey will portray Doctor Doom in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday. The film also marks the return of the iconic Russo Brothers to the Marvel universe. Director Zack Snyder commented on their involvement, stating that the duo will deliver something “amazing” and might “shake it up a bit.”

“I think that’s great for them. They’re amazing, and they’ve really done great work with those guys. I’m sure they’ll do something amazing. They’re talented guys, and I think they’ll do something cool. I think it’s time to shake it up a little bit,” he said on CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast.

Notably, the brothers will fill in the position for director Destin Daniel Cretton, who left the Avengers project in November last year. Best known for their earlier directs like blockbusters, such as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, they are no strangers to the MCU. With their return for the next part, things are expected to get more exciting.

RDJ On Returning To The MCU

Earlier, while speaking on another podcast, Downey explained the reason why he decided to return after Iron Man’s respectful death in the Endgame.

“Kevin (Feige) and I have kept in touch. We’re pals. Favreau, Feige, and I have kept in touch. I’m close with the Russo Brothers; we have other business we’re doing. So there’s this little kind of group of fellow travelers. And I had this instinct that I wanted to go to Bob Iger, and I had an idea outside of the Cinematic Universe for how I could be of service to what’s going on in the parks and all their location-based entertainment,” he said.

When talking about the upcoming Avengers films, the fifth part was initially announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but it was later changed to Doctor Doom. On the other hand, Avengers 6 has been dubbed Secret Wars, set for release in 2027. More details about these projects are yet to be unveiled.
