When Three Star Actors United For This Second-highest Grossing Film Of 1991
This film was directed by Mukul S Anand and was shot in various locations like Mauritius, Ooty and Mumbai.

Everyone would remember the iconic song Jumma Chumma De De, to which a swanky-looking Amitabh Bachchan and stunning beauty, Kimi Katkar grooved. The peppy song was one of the huge hits and continues to be evergreen. The song is from a 1991 film, an action crime drama, directed by Mukul S Anand. The film was the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Can you guess the name?

Hum was headlined by Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Govinda, Kimi Katkar, Shilpa Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher and Kader Khan. At the box office, it emerged to be the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Such was its hype that it became an inspiration for Baashha, the cult hit of the South.

People showered the film with so much love that it shattered many box office records. After Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan-starrer Saajan, the highest-grossing film of the year, Hum was positioned second. The film is about Bhaktawar (Danny Denzongpa), who rules the Mumbai docks and ill-treats his workers. Tiger (Amitabh Bachchan) was not a fan of Bhaktawar but collected money from the workers for his father. Tiger is in love with Jumma, the sister of his best friend. But, when Tiger’s best friend and parents die, he is left to take care of his two younger brothers.

The film was shot in various locations like Mumbai, Ooty and Mauritius. Interestingly, director Mukul S Anand thought of a potential scene with Rajinikanth, where Amitabh Bachchan’s Tiger helps Govinda’s Vijay Malhotra to get a seat in the Police Academy. While the director rejected the scene later on thinking it won’t be suitable, superstar Rajinikanth believed that the scene could be developed into a feature film. This led to the making of Baashha in 1995.

The film’s soundtrack was a huge hit and was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Jumma Chumma De De is based on Guinean singer Mory Kanter’s Tama and Ek Doosre Se is based on Inch Allah. The lyrics for the songs were penned by Anand Bakshi. Jumma Chumma De De’s song gained popularity to an extent that even before the release of the film and the song, Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi danced to its tunes at Wembley Stadium, London in 1990.
