Sexual Harassment cases once surged in Bollywood after the emergence of the Me Too Movement in 2018. It started after actress Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. In the South industry, the issue fumed after the actress Sri Reddy went topless outside the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce at Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, seeking justice for the casting couch scandals in the film industry. A few other South Indian actors who have alleged sexual misconduct since Reddy include Sriranjini and Chinmayi Sripaada. Telugu singer Pranavi Acharya, who came to the limelight for her songs in Sri Ramadasu, Happy Days, Yamadonga and Lion, too opened up about her experience on the casting couch.
Singer Pranavi Acharya, who is now happily married to choreographer Raghu Master, garnered headlines when she spoke about being subjected to sexual harassment in the film industry. In an interview on a website, as quoted by TOI, when the singer was asked about her thoughts on the casting couch she said that she was asked for sexual favours in return for the chance to sing in a film in the initial phase of her career. She further said that she took her stand and firmly said ‘NO’ to such propositions.
While speaking about one particular incident, the singer said that once she was told by a director to sleep with him to get a chance to sing in the film. Pranavi said she was very young then and told the same to the director. According to the report of The Wee, the singer said that the director was insistent even after she told him a strict ‘no’. When he tried to persuade her again, she said she would slap him with her slipper. She also claimed that the director in conversation was married at that time.
Pranavi got married to choreographer, Raghu Master in 2016. The couple was blessed with a girl child. Raghu Master got his first opportunity through the dance show Dhee and became popular with his choreography in Arya 2, Mirchi Jil and Akhil. In Bigg Boss Telugu 2020, the couple was set to enter the reality show as a couple but reportedly took back their name due to family pressure and other reasons.
