In 2019, Haneef Adeni made the Malayalam film Mikhael, which failed to work at the box office. The reviews were not that great as well, so when Haneef Adeni announced a prequel to the movie, it took everyone by surprise. However, the decision to make the much-debated sequel was because of the popularity of Unni Mukundan’s character Marco. Unni Mukundan had played an antagonist in Mikhael and now a spin-off is being made on his character’s backstory and his rise in the world of crime. The film has been named Marco, based on his character.
Unni Mukundan started shooting for the film following the success of his most recent film Jai Ganesh and now reports suggest that the first schedule of Marco has been wrapped up. The first schedule was held at Munnar where the team shot continuously for 15 days. Now, the team plans to relocate to Kochi where the next schedule for the film will be shot. The Kochi session of Marco will be longer, lasting for over a month, after which the next schedule will be held in Greece, according to the makers. The makers have also said that Marco will be the most violent movie produced in Malayalam cinema.
The cast of Marco includes Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, Siddique and Jagadish, among others. The film also marks the debut of Abhimanyu Shammy Thilakan, grandson of legendary actor Thilakan and son of famed actor Shammy. The film features Chandru Selvaraj as the cinematographer, Shameer Muhammed as the editor, and KGF-famed Ravi Basrur as the music director. Kalai Kingson has been signed on as the action choreographer.
Next up for Unni Mukundan is the Tamil movie Garudan, in which he co-stars with Soori and Sasikumar. Released on May 31, the film is a co-production with Vetrimaaran. Additionally, Unni has several other projects on his upcoming schedule, including the long-delayed Mindiyum Paranjum, Get-Set Baby and Gandharva Jr.
