Tom Cruise has a global fan following and it becomes even more prominent whenever a new film of his hits theatres. Not only this, the actor has a tradition of surprising his colleagues with gifts every now and then. Some are even fortunate enough to receive birthday presents. One such lucky recipient is Dakota Fanning, who co-starred with Cruise in the 2005 film War of the Worlds. Since then, she has been receiving special birthday gifts from him every year.
During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Dakota Fanning shared with fans that Tom Cruise, her co-star from War of the Worlds, has been gifting her a pair of shoes every year on her birthday since their collaboration. Reflecting on their time filming the movie, she fondly recalled celebrating her 11th birthday. But at that time, she was surprised with a Motorola Razr, her first-ever phone, from Tom Cruise.
During the conversation with the host, The Watchers star said, “I turned 11 on War of the Worlds, he always sends me the same thing every year. I loved shoes, when I was little and like I started to be able to fit into like really small adult shoes, when I was on the War of the World’s press tour, I was very excited about them and so from that birthday on, he always sends me shoes.”
Talking about receiving a mobile on, Dakota Fanning shared, “When we worked together, he gave me my first cell phone for that birthday. I didn’t have anyone to call but I just had wanted a Razr so bad, so cool. I must have been talking about it a lot because that’s what he got me. Such a great memory.”
Interestingly, Dakota Fanning celebrated her 30th birthday on February 23. Other than sending gifts, Tom Cruise is also known for surprising cakes to people every Christmas, including those who live outside the US. According to Tapas Magazine, the cake comes from Doan’s Bakery in California. Among the stars who receive this special cake are Jimmy Fallon, Angela Bassett, Jon Hamm, Kirsten Dunst, Glen Powell and Hayley Atwell. It is a coconut Bundt cake with sweet white chocolate, a layer of cream cheese frosting and toasted coconut flakes on top.
