Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, arrested on charges of murder of his fan S Renukaswamy, broke down as he briefly met his wife Vijayalakshmi and 15-year-old son at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on Monday, according to news reports. He also met actor-friend Vinod Prabhakar in jail.
According to news reports, Darshan got emotional as he saw his wife and son and he hugged them. His wife updated him on his bail application. Vijayalakshmi did not speak to the media.
Speaking to reporters outside the prison, Vinod said, “I met Darshan. He was very quiet. He only spoke for one second, and addressed me as ‘Tiger’, while I addressed him as ‘boss’. I shook his hand and came out."
“May Renukaswamy’s soul rest in peace. I pray that God gives courage to his family. This tragedy should not have happened," he further said.
As per police sources, Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor and resident of Chitradurga, had sent obscene messages to Darshan’s partner Pavithra Gowda, which enraged him, allegedly leading to the murder. Renukaswamy’s body was found near a stormwater drain adjacent to an apartment in Bengaluru’s Sumanahalli on June 9.
A Karnataka court on Saturday remanded Darshan in judicial custody till July 4. His three alleged accomplices – Vinay, Pradosh and Dhanaraj – were also sent to judicial custody.
Darshan was in police custody since June 11. A total of 17 people are accused in the murder case.
