The Kaushal brothers – Sunny and Vicky have been ruling hearts with their films. Time and again, they have been praised by the critics and audiences alike for their versatility and honesty that they bring about in their performances. While they might be the sons of famous action director Sham Kaushal, Sunny Kaushal revealed recently that neither him nor his brother used his name to bag roles.
Speaking with Curly Tales, Sunny Kaushal explained why he chose to give auditions despite his father’s identity in the industry, “Dad is an action director. A lot of people in the casting area don’t know about all the technicians that are behind the camera, they don’t know the names. Even if they do, you don’t connect with them,” he stated.
He added, “I am really proud of my name and my surname but we never used it. We have never gone to a place and said, ‘You know my father is also from the film industry’. Aisa nahi hota tha, usse koi fayeda bhi nahi hai (This didn’t use to happen and it’s not like it would’ve helped us either).”
Sunny Kaushal started his Bollywood journey by working as an assistant director on the sets of the 2011 film My Friend Pinto and the 2014 film Gunday. He finally made his acting debut in Sunshine Music Tours and Travels, a 2016 comedy drama.
The 34-year-old actor gained recognition for his role in the 2018 sports biopic Gold. He has also starred in the web series The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye and the film Shiddat. His upcoming projects include Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, which will have Vikrant Massey, Taapsee Pannu, and Jimmy Shergill in lead roles.
Sunny Kaushal is the younger brother of Bollywood hearthrob Vicky Kaushal. Their father Shyam Kaushal is an acclaimed action director in Indian films. He has won multiple Filmfare Awards for Best Action Director in films like Dangal, Bajirao Mastani, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Gunday.
