The News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024 is just around the corner. And like the previous editions, this one too would be a bedazzling celebration of the best performances and movies that were released in theaters and on OTT between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Ahead of the grand ceremony on March 9 in Mumbai, let’s take a look into the nominees that would be contending under the Best Music category.
The year 2023 was a stellar one not just for the acting fraternity but also for the musical icons. From the foot-tapping album from Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan which consisted of adrenaline-pumping numbers to soulful tracks that added depth to Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, here are the music directors competing for the trophy.
Pritam (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani/ Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar): One of the most versatile music composers of the country, Pritam delivered chartbuster songs like Tum Kya Mile and What Jhumka from Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and O Bedardeya and Show Me The Thumka from Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.
Anirudh Ravichander (Jawan): The Jawan soundtrack was an eclectic mix of groovy romantic ballads like Chaleya and rousing songs like Zinda Banda and Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The album also consisted of a lullaby Aararaari Raaro and a rap track which was an ode to Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom.
Vishal – Shekhar (Pathaan): The entire soundtrack of Pathaan trended for weeks. While Besharam Rang sung by Shilpa Rao, Caralisa Monteiro features Deepika Padukone’s flawless moves to Shah Rukh Khan’s hook step in Arijit Singh’s Jhoome Jo Pathaan. The album perfectly captured the soul of the film.
Vishal Mishra, Jaani, Manan Bhardwaj, Harshvardhan Rameshwar, Shreyas Puranik, Ashim Kemson (Animal): The album of Sandeep Reddy Vanga was as diverse as it gets, helmed by several renowned faces from the music industry. No wonder, it hit all the right notes with tracks like Satranga, Pehle Bhi Main, Arjan Vailly, Papa Meri Jaan, and Saari Duniya Jala Denge among others.
Sachin-Jigar (Zara Hatke Zara Bachke): The musical duo who have been known to churn viral songs did it once again with the album Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. The Vicky Kaushal, Sara Ali Khan starrer had soulful songs like Phir Aur Kya Chahiye and Tere Vaaste along with the fast-paced song Baby Tujhe Paap Lagega.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (Archies): Zoya Akhtar’s directorial that marked the debut of Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda was an unconventional album to have come out from the camp of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Rich in English folk and rock & roll, the musical album had several songs like Va Va Voom, and In Raahon Mein that blended seamlessly with the premise of the movie.
