It is perhaps because of the tremendous popularity enjoyed by Suriya that the recently released first look poster of his upcoming action drama ‘S3’ has created quite a stir amongst fans of Southern cinema. In them, the 40-year-old star is seen in a Khaki uniform. Moreover, he also sports a macho handlebar moustache in addition to stylish sunglasses.
Interestingly this is not the first time that Suriya has become the talk of the town courtesy his onscreen getup. Over the years, the actor has experimented with his image on several occasions. Today, let us revisit some of the most memorable looks donned by Suriya during his highly successful career.
Anjaan: Touted as an action film, ‘Anjaan’ revolved around a don who kidnaps the daughter of a senior police officer. Directed by N Lingusamy, it saw Suriya sport a rugged look complete with a beard and moustache. Needless to say, he carried off the look with absolute ease thanks to his casual yet intense body language.
Ghajini: Loosely based on the Christopher Nolan-directed ‘Memento’, this thriller saw Suriya redefine the meaning of onscreen machismo. Essaying the role of a Amnesia patient, the actor donned a tonsured look and flaunted his well toned physique to the fullest. Interestingly, the film was later remade in Hindi under the same title with Aamir Khan stepping into Suriya’s shoes.
Kaakha Kaakha: Gautham Menon’s highly successful action-drama ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ saw Suriya essay the role of a young police officer who decides to avenge his wife’s murder. Paired opposite Jyothika, the actor sported a moustached look which gelled well with his confident onscreen mannerisms. Moreover, Suriya’s look complemented Jyothika ‘s lively screen presence quite perfectly.
Masss: Directed by Venkat Prabhu and touted as a supernatural thriller, ‘Masss’ revolved around a con artist and a ghost who looks exactly like him. In some of the scenes, Suriya sported a Dracula style vampire look and sent shivers up the spines of countless movie buffs.
Vaaranam Aayiram: Helmed by celebrated filmmaker Gautham Menon, ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ saw Suriya play a double role and showcase his versatility to the fullest. In some of the scenes, he sported a salt and pepper look much to the delight of his die-hard fans. As expected, he carried of this mature look with effortless ease.
Maayavi: The fun-filled comedy ‘Maayavi’ revolved around guide-cum-conman who ends up breaking into the house of a noted actress. Directed by actor-filmmaker Singampuli, it saw Suriya sport a goofy and quirky look in which he looked almost unrecognizable. As expected, this avatar was appreciated by all and sundry and helped him add another dimension to his career. Interestingly, one of the most noteworthy aspects of ‘Maayavi’ was that Suriya’s character was shown to be a fan of Ajith Kumar.
