A complaint has been filed against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma by Ranaragini, the women's wing of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, over his controversial tweet involving Bollywood actress Sunny Leone. They want Varma's Twitter account to be blocked and section 298 to be imposed on him for using indecent language against women. The senior police officials are now looking into the matter.
The director, on the occasion of International Women's Day, took to Twitter to wish his fans and wrote, "I wish all the women in the world give men as much happiness as Sunny Leone gives(sic)."

However, Varma maintains that he'll file a 'counter complaint' against the activist for disrespecting Sunny Leone's followers. "Filing counter against OverActivist wid 212 followers which wud b her family n friends, for disrespecting 18 lakh followers of @SunnyLeone(sic)", he wrote on Twitter.

The tweet didn't go down well with Twitterati and Varma instantly received a major backlash but that only made him defend his previous tweets. He wrote, "All u illiterates who dint understand my earlier 2 tweets on @SunnyLeone atleast go through dictionary unless u are uneducated for that too.(sic)"

He also cited hypocrisy as the reason for all the "negative noise towards my tweet on Sunny Leone".
The negative noise towards my tweet on @SunnyLeone arises from ultimate hypocrisy. She has more honesty and more self respect than any woman— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
He even got into a face-off with NCP Leader Jitendra Ah-wad who said if Varma doesn't apologise he’ll have to face consequences & that the NCP cadre won't mind taking law into their own hands.
If u don't apologise to threat of taking law into ur own hands, will formally register complaint, so let me know . Please note @PawarSpeaks https://t.co/YdfZmBOJgH— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
In a series of tweets on the same day, the director also questioned the sole purpose of Women's day and said that it should be named as Men's day instead.
Women's day should be called #MensDay because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate women— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
Women on atleast #MensDay should not nag or scream and atleast give some freedom to men— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
I don't know what men should be doing to women that day but I wish one day in year is celebrated as #MensWomensDay— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
