Rakul Preet Singh On Shocking Bollywood Stylist Fees And How Entourages Can Fuel Insecurity: 'Its Important To Listen...'
In a podcast, Rakul Preet Singh highlighted how entourages can fuel insecurities and stressed the importance of trusting one's judgment. She also discussed the high cost of Bollywood stylists and the different demands of PR and visibility compared to the South film industry.

Actor Rakul Preet Singh, known for her work in both Hindi and Telugu cinema, shared her thoughts on the importance of being strong-willed in the film industry, especially with the constant flow of advice from various sources, including an actor’s entourage. During her appearance on the Beer Biceps podcast, the conversation touched on filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s comment about the challenges of making multi-starrer films due to younger actors being heavily influenced by their entourages.

When asked if actors’ insecurities are fueled by their entourages, Rakul agreed, stating, “Yes, you’re right. You’ve to be silly to believe everything you hear. A lot of people will give you several advices, but you’ve to use your own mind. What Rohit sir said is probably right. In South, the old school single manager system is still in place. They don’t have a huge entourage; you don’t have 10 people telling you what’s good for your positioning or what’s not.”

She emphasized the importance of respecting advice but ultimately trusting one’s own judgment. “It’s important to listen and respect them. They know what they’re saying but do what you feel is right. As an actor, your actions will go out in the public, so you’ve to be responsible for yourself,” she said.

Rakul also discussed the close bond she shares with her team, which she values for reasons beyond professional advice, bonding with them over food and workouts rather than indulging in gossip. “You are who you surround yourself with. You spend more time with your core team—hair and makeup, spot boy—so it’s important to know what energy they carry. I don’t want to listen to gossip at 7 in the morning, I’m not interested in knowing about someone else’s life,” she explained.

Reflecting on her Bollywood journey, Rakul, who made her Hindi film debut with Yaariyaan in 2014, noted the unique demands of the industry. She highlighted how working in Mumbai comes with its own set of challenges involving “PR, visibility, positioning, and brands,” which she learned over time.

Recalling an eye-opening moment from her early career, she shared, “I didn’t know during promotions that I had to get a stylist. I learnt that right before my promotions were starting and I thought, ‘My God this is so expensive!’ This is 12 years ago. Stylists are expensive, they can range anywhere between Rs 15,000 to a lakh for one event, one outfit. You learn from all these things.”

Rakul Preet Singh will soon be seen in the much-anticipated sequel ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, alongside Ajay Devgn.
