Following the monumental success of Jailer, Rajinikanth is poised to deliver another global hit with Vettaiyan. Although advance bookings in India are yet to open, the film is already making waves in the USA. Vettaiyan is set to hit theatres on October 10.
According to a report in ETimes, the film has amassed an impressive $97,000 (approximately Rs 80 lakh) from nearly 4,000 tickets sold. Vettaiyan is much anticipated among fans with the teaser showing Rajinikanth pulling some difficult stunts and Amitabh Bachchan in an intense role. Only a week after the makers dropped its preview, the film has surpassed the 10 million mark. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan will follow the story of a retired cop played by Rajinikanth as he fights against the system.
The film will see the collaboration of Rajinikanth with Amitabh Bachchan after 32 years. The powerful duo was last seen together in Mukul S Anand’s ‘Hum’. Apart from the two, Vettaiyan will also feature popular Tamil actors including Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles.
Another promising element of the film is that its music has been given by Anirudh Ravichnader. Anirudh also makes an appearance in the song Manasilaayo which features Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier. The song has become viral for its beat-thumping music and dance moves. Anirudh Ravichnader’s music has gained massive popularity even among Hindi-speaking audiences after Shah Rukh led Jawan.
It’s a non-stop success for Rajinikanth as his previous film Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar was also a major blockbuster and minted Rs 600 crore at the global box office. Moreover, Vettaiyan will be the 170th film of Rajinikanth. It has been produced under Lyca Productions and has been extensively shot across various cities in India, including Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
With numbers looking promising already with 14 days to the release day, it looks like Vettaiyan can also beat the advance booking record of Jailer which was Rs 7 lakh. Vettaiyan will clash on the big screen on October 10 with Alia Bhatt’s Jigra and Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
