Nag Ashwin's upcoming sci-fi magnum opus, Kalki 2898 AD, breathes new life into this ancient tale, reimagining Ashwatthama's journey in a post-apocalyptic world.

In the annals of Hindu mythology, Ashwatthama, also known as Drauni, stands as a formidable figure. The son of Drona and a major character in the epic Mahabharata, Ashwatthama was a friend to Duryodhana, the eldest of the Kauravas. Trained in warfare by his father alongside the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Ashwatthama’s story is one of loyalty, power, and, ultimately, a tragic curse.

Nag Ashwin’s upcoming sci-fi magnum opus, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, breathes new life into this ancient tale, reimagining Ashwatthama’s journey in a post-apocalyptic world. In a bold casting choice, Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, bringing a gravitas to the character that aligns with his mythological roots.

In the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama’s arc takes a dark turn when he attempts to destroy the generations of the Pandavas by killing Unnati’s unborn child. For this heinous act, he was cursed by Lord Krishna with immortality and eternal suffering. This curse serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of his actions during the war.

However, in the trailer for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, we witness a dramatic shift. Ashwatthama is seen volunteering to save the unborn child of Deepika’s character Sumati, proclaiming that this child is the last ray of hope and humanity’s last beacon in a desolate world. This pivotal moment in the trailer suggests a profound redemption arc for Ashwatthama, offering a narrative where mythology seems to redeem itself. Ashwatthama’s role in protecting the child symbolises a departure from his cursed past, aligning with the themes of hope and renewal that the film explores.

Produced under Vyjayanthi Movies by C.
