Prime Video unveiled the official trailer of the upcoming royal drama series My Lady Jane. Created by Gemma Burgess, the eight-episode show will start streaming on June 27. Based upon the same title novel by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton, My Lady Jane follows the story of Jane Grey but with a twist. While in real life she was beheaded, the book makes her come alive, presenting imaginary and probable events she could have encountered if not dead. The series follows suit with the radical retelling of the tale, with newcomer Emily Bader slipping into the shoes of the titular, historic character.
My Lady Jane is set in a fantastical world of the Tudor period. It captures the swashbuckling romance between the headstrong and defiant Jane Grey and King Henry VIII’s son Edward. The trailer opens with the voice of the narrator introducing Jane to viewers. “History remembers Jane as the ultimate damsel in distress known for her death rather than her life," it states. Visuals of her beheading were also incorporated into the clip. However, the scene soon shifts to Jane who faces Edward asking him to help her cancel her marriage.
Jane Grey’s parents force her to marry a suitor claiming that it will “protect" them. When she attempts to “flee from her destiny", Jane meets Lord Guildford Dudley and expresses her desire to be independent. My Lady Jane promises umpteen powerplays, dangerous adventures, enemies vying to take away the throne and blood-curdling battles, infused with Jane and Guildford’s whirlwind romance. The series also portrays the protagonist as a strong and rebellious female character, hell bent on doing things her way. The trailer ends with her marriage to Edward.
Sharing the trailer on their official Instagram handle, Prime Video wrote, “Prepare thyself", generating anticipatory reactions from social media users. “So excited," remarked one individual. “Can’t wait" agreed another. “This is going to be absolutely incredible," asserted a third Instagrammer.
