Earlier today, Karan Johar announced the C Sankaran Nair biopic, starring Akshay Kumar, set for a Holi 2025 release in March. The announcement quickly became a trending topic on social media, and a recent update has been shared by Bollywood Hungama.
Sources close to the entertainment portal revealed that Karan Johar has asked Akshay Kumar to reconsider the release date of Jolly LLB 3. “Jolly LLB 3 is scheduled to release on April 10, 2025, just 20 days after the C Sankaran Nair Biopic. Given that both the films are in the courtroom space, Karan has requested Akshay to take the release of Jolly LLB 3 ahead by a few weeks,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The source further shared that Akshay Kumar is contemplating Karan’s request, though his producers are hesitant to give up the valuable holiday period in summer 2025. “Jolly LLB 3 has got a lucrative date with multiple holidays in the first 2 weeks, and hence it’s going to be a tough call. He understands the issues raised by Karan, as both films are in the same genre, and hence has started discussions with producers of Jolly 3,” the source explained.
While Jolly LLB 3 is positioned for a summer release, the Sankaran Nair Biopic is locked in for March 15, 2025.
The original Jolly LLB released in 2013, followed by a sequel in 2017. The first film featured Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla in key roles, while Akshay Kumar took over from Arshad Warsi in the second installment, alongside Huma Qureshi.
In the upcoming third installment, Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi will face off, with Saurabh Shukla returning as the judge. “It’s basically Jolly vs. Jolly, and the entire cast is excited to start shooting for this ambitious film for the Jolly LLB franchise. The team is still contemplating two titles titled Jolly LLB 3 or Jolly vs. Jolly, and a call on the same will be taken closer to the announcement,” a source previously told Pinkvilla.
In an earlier interview with Hindustan Times, Arshad Warsi shared his thoughts on being absent from Jolly LLB 2. “I have no idea. I have a feeling the makers wanted to upscale the film. I remember I told Subhash (Kapoor, director) also, ‘You should do it with Akshay. If you want to show a crowd in a courtroom, with me it will be 500; with Akshay, you will get 5000′. Somewhere, the production people realized, ‘Let’s get a bigger star’. People liked to see me, so I am back. People will enjoy seeing me and Akshay,” he said.
