Kaabil to Saawariya: Films That Clashed With SRK Starrers And Failed
Will Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha be another victim of SRK's stardom at the box-office? Only time will tell.

When it comes to the success and box-office revenue, the three Khans of Bollywood can undoubtedly be called the kings. Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are the back bone of business in Bollywood. With crores of money and expectations riding on their backs, the actors make it a point to give maximum profits to their producers. Due to the popularity enjoyed by the Khans other filmmakers usually avoid a clash with their films. However there comes a time when clashes are unavoidable and a Kumar or a Roshan comes up with their big project.

In the past decade, while Salman and Aamir have conveniently decided their slots on Eid and Christmas, it's Shah Rukh who faces the clash with big films, where, barring an instance or two the other film has to suffer in the hands of SRK's immense popularity.

After a big clash in January with Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil against his own Raees, SRK is all set for another big clash and this time with another mass favourite Akshay Kumar. Kumar's socially relevant film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is set to release with SRK-Anushka Sharma starrer untitled film, directed by Imtiaz Ali.

While Akshay is known for creating his own niche and has an impeccable box-office record, SRK has a record to winning a clash since the past decade. Let's take a look at all the big films that couldn't sustain the charisma of SRK and failed to mint more money than the Khan-starrer.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai vs Bade Miyaa Chhote Miyaa

Big clash of 1998 happened when a film starring two big names, Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda, released alongside another big film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai by a debut director. While people expected Bade Miyaa to be the ultimate winner, charm of SRK made it into a different story. David Dhawan starrer fell flat on box-office as Karan Johar made his entry into Bollywood with the highest grossing film of the year.

Mohabbatein vs Mission Kashmir

After making an impressive debut in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Hrithik Roshan was a mass favourite. Cashing on his popularity, makers of Mission Kashmir decided to release the film with Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein starring SRK. However, SRK emerged as a clear winner giving another best-grosser of the year as Roshan's popularity failed to sustain Mission Kashmir.

Veer Zaara vs Aitraaz

Two great storylines clashed on Box-Office when Abbas-Mastan decided to release their film starring two actresses and Akshay Kumar with Adi Chopra's Veera-Zaara starring SRK and Preity Zinta. While critics adored the thriller by the director duo, it was again SRK who ruled the box-office as well as the hearts of the critics. Still, considered one of the best love stories made by YRF productions, Veer-Zaara yet again proved the star power of SRK.

Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya

It was Bhansali's Saawariya who suffered at the hands of SRK's Om Shanti Om in 2007. With two debut actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, Saawaraiya failed to make any mark opposite SRK's mega-film based on reincarnation. However, Bhansali avenged the fate of Saawaraiya in 2015 when SRK's Dilwale fell behind Bajirao Mastani, both, in terms of reviews and numbers.

Raees vs Kaabil

Raees, a film which was earlier said to clash with 2016's biggest hit Sultan, was shifted to a more flexible and convenient slot of Republic day weekend. Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil suffered the burn of SRK's stardom. While, both the films managed to do good business, Raees was way ahead of Kaabil, which otherwise would've been a clear winner at the box office.

Now, will Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha be another victim of SRK's stardom at the box-office? Only time will tell. Till then, we can wait for the first look of both the interesting love-stories and form our judgements.
