Joe Locke can finally breathe easy after the release of Agatha All Along’s thrilling fifth episode on Disney Plus. Titled Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power, the episode delivers a jaw-dropping twist as Locke’s character, Teen, is revealed to be none other than Billy, the son of Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen). While fans had long speculated about the connection, the reveal still shocked many when a crown, just like Wanda’s, appeared on Billy’s head. In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Locke teased that this moment is a game-changer, promising Marvel fans that things are about to get seriously intense.
Locke said, “It’s so nice. I feel like I’m breathing. I love it. I’m in the UK. The episode drops at 2:00 AM. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep, so I’m just going to drug myself and then wake up to my phone blowing up, which it did. The thing that I’ve kept so secret, guarding it with my life is now just in the ether. You can do the most unsurprising thing in the most surprising way, and that’s how you hook an audience.”
“The show starts getting real. The show starts with Billy being very much the familiar, the secondary to all the witches. Now we know he is also a witch and that changes things. Also, we now know that he has the ability to cause harm to them. Therefore, he is now the most powerful person on the Road. What does that change in the dynamic of the group and how does that change the future of those relationships?” Joe Locke adds.
The young star believes that Episode 7 of Agatha All Along will be the most thrilling yet. Joe Locke reveals that at the end of Episode 5, the fate of the witches remains uncertain, and his character, Billy, isn’t behaving in a positive light.
Locke adds that while Wanda may commit terrible acts, she’s not entirely evil. Agatha, too, has hidden motives, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. The real drama lies in Billy’s deception of Agatha, and their tangled relationship becomes the heart of the story.
Joe Locke further explained that they worked hard to show the similarities between Billy and Wanda. Fans who know the comics understand that Billy’s powers are very similar to his mother, but with few differences. They wanted to feature these similarities while also giving Billy his unique style. Interestingly, in a scene where Billy uses his powers to push Lilia and Jen away from the Witches’ Road was inspired by a hand gesture that Wanda uses in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor now wishes that his character will become a key member of the Avengers and appear in many Marvel projects.
Fans were quick to figure out that Locke is the Billy/Wiccan and some production leaks also confirmed this theory. Since the show began, there were hints about his character’s identity. Meanwhile, the upcoming sixth episode is expected to explore Billy’s true motivations and his past, which will help fans understand his character better and how he connects with the overall plot of Agatha All Along and future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
