Here's Why Deepika Padukone Hasn't Signed Any New Film
Speculation was rife that she is either taking some time off to tend to her neck and shoulder problem or is clearing her calendar for the preparation of her wedding with rumoured beau Ranveer Singh, however, it seems these are nothing but rumours.

After her glamorous Cannes red-carpet appearances, actor Deepika Padukone is back home. Interestingly, after her much-appreciated role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavat, Deepika hasn't signed any new film, neither she is shooting for any at the moment. Her only signed film is that of Vishal Bhardwaj's untitled drama opposite Irrfan Khan, which has been postponed citing health problems of both the leading actors.

So what is keeping Deepika away from the camera? Speculation was rife that she is either taking some time off to tend to her neck and shoulder problem or is clearing her calendar for the preparation of her wedding with rumoured beau Ranveer Singh, however, it seems these are nothing but rumours.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, the actor is away from the screen because of the lack of quality roles coming her way. A source close to Deepika was quoted as saying, "Her back/neck problem is being properly attended to and she will be fine soon. As for marriage plans, they in no way impinge on her career. The reason Deepika is not signing anything new is that of quality of roles coming her way. They are all big-banner films with top heroes. But nothing even remotely as author-backed or inspiring as Padmaavat. At this stage in her career, Deepika is no more content playing the conventional leading lady. It has to be a script that offers her as much to do as the male protagonist,"

Another issue is that of her fees. She is the highest paid female actor in the industry, currently and was even paid more than Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in Padmaavat. The actor knows what she deserves and refuses to settle for less. This might be seen as a problem in male-dominated Hindi film industry where several top producers are still unwilling to pay females more than their male counterparts.
