The 1983 Indian Kannada film Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu, also titled The Flower That Bloomed in Fire, was produced and directed by Chandulal Jain and K Balachander. The main character, Kavitha (Suhasini), was too preoccupied with looking after her mother, siblings, and her alcoholic brother’s family to worry about when she would have time to live her own life. Suhasini, the South Indian star of the 1980s and 1990s, made her formal Kannada debut through this film. The movie was a remake of the 1974 Tamil film Aval Oru Thodar Kathai.
