The Marvels releases on OTT this week. Ahead of the release, Brie Larson opened up about working with the film's director, Nia Dacosta.

The Marvels is all set to stream on OTT this week. A sequel to the 2019 box office phenomenon Captain Marvel, which introduced audiences worldwide to an all-new chapter starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, The Marvels takes the story further as Carol as Captain Marvel reclaims her identity from the tyrannical Kree and takes revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. However, unintended consequences see her shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. To face it, she teams up with her estranged niece Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Jersey City super-fan Kamal Khan (Iman Vellani). Directed by Nia DaCosta, the movie brings viewers the cosmic Marvel universe in a new light.

Brie Larson shares her experience of working with director Nia DaCosta. “It was just clear from the first meeting with her, Nia’s a nerd like me. She knows all about these comics and rolls so deep with all of this. Therefore, it’s shorthand to her, she knows how all this stuff comes into play. And then on top of it, she has the leadership, the vision, the clarity, and the temperament to do something like this. Nia guided this team to success and just had fun,” she said.

Last year, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Nia had opened up about the Asian representation in The Marvels. The Marvels boasts of a stellar cast. While Iman represents the South Asian community, South Korean actor Park Seo Joon is making South Koreans and K-drama fans across the globe proud with his role in the film. Although the movie has a lot of representation, DaCosta admitted she did not feel the weight and pressure of the representation.

“I inherited an amazing cast in the Khan family and Kamala Khan. And Park Seo Joon was an actor that I just thought was amazing and when this character (Prince Yan) came up, I was like he would be really good for this. I was just excited for the opportunity to put more people in the film from different backgrounds but I didn’t feel pressured around it,” DaCosta said.

The Marvels also stars Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Seo-Jun Park, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson. Kevin Feige serves as the producer, while Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos, Jonathan Schwartz, and Matthew Jenkins act as executive producers. The screenplay is by Nia DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.

Catch Marvel Studios’ The Marvels from 7th February on Disney + Hotstar.
