The much-awaited Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 trailer was released recently, and fans were quite excited to see Vidya Balan reprise the role of Manjulika after 17 years. While Vidya Balan’s role in the first part of the film franchise was widely acclaimed, fans have also been appreciating the character in the third part’s trailer. Director Anees Bazmee, in his recent interview, recounted the behind-the-scenes story of how he was able to cast Vidya for the project and her reaction to hearing the script.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, Anees Bazmee expressed that he knew Vidya Balan was the most suited for this role. He stated, “Mujhe toh hamesha lag ra tha ki yeh Manjulika jo hai agar wo Vidya ji kar le (I always felt that if anyone could portray Manjulika, it had to be Vidya).” He added that she did such a fantastic job in the first film and received much love for her performance.
Talking about how he roped in the actress for the third installment of the franchise, Anees asserted, “We approached Vidya ji and luckily she loved the script. She said ki ‘meine jo kahaniyan suni hai usmein ek hi kahani hai jo mujhe bahut achi lagti hai’. Jab narration tha toh meine 10 minute ka narration diya tha aur yeh janna chah ra tha ki unhe kya lag raha hai. Meine jab sunaya toh she was very excited and unhone bola ‘bahut maza aayega’ (Among all the stories I’ve heard, there’s one that I really like.’ During the narration, I gave her a 10-minute overview, eager to know her thoughts. When I finished, she was very excited and said, ‘This is going to be a lot of fun!’).”
The filmmaker highlighted that they met again around 10 to 15 days later and delivered a thorough narration, but within those first 10 minutes, he could tell Vidya Balan had already decided to do this film. Anees Bazmee went on to add, “Isse acha kya ho sakta hai ki Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 mein yeh 17 saal baad wapas aayi. Bahut khoobsurat kaam kiya hai unhone film ke andar (There could be nothing better than having her return to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 after 17 years. She has done a beautiful job in the film).”
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Murad Khetani, will release in theatres on November 1. The film stars Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Rajpal Yadav as well as Madhuri Dixit.
