The 70th National Film Award winners were announced on Friday, August 16. The jury of the National Awards announced Malayalam film Aattam as the Best Feature Film. The movie, written and directed by Anand Ekarshi, also bagged the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Editing at the prestigious ceremony. The jury of the 70th National Film Awards consisted of Rahul Rawail, Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, Gangadhar Mudalair, Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.
About Aattam
Starring Vinay Forrt, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Zarin Shihab, Aattam film explores the dynamics between an individual and a group when potholed in certain uncomfortable situations. It is loosely based on the famous American courtroom drama, Twelve Angry Men. The film revolves around a woman and twelve men played by a theatre group called Arangu. When the group gets the chance to be recognised internationally, the sole female member of the theatre group accuses a popular star of assaulting her.
While her team members initially support her, their loyalties shift after the superstar gives them a potential offer to perform in Europe for a huge fee. As the events proceed, disturbing facts come to light and truths unravel, resulting in clamour and chaos to find out the ultimate truth.

The Anand Ekarshi directorial also received the Grand Jury Award at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in 2023. The film was chosen as the opening feature film at the 54th International Film Festival of India held in Goa in the same year.
Aattam has also won several other prestigious awards and honours, including the Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Film, the Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress to Zarin Shihab and the Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor to Kalabhavan Shajohn.
