If you're looking for a fun and easy way to switch up your look this Valentine's Day, then a fresh manicure could be the answer.
Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe suggests keeping things girly by mixing up the colors you use and matching the shade you use on your index and ring finger. A non-traditional Valentine's Day palette could include purples and whites to help keep your look different. If you're opting for a heart-shaped design, then Zoe also advises ditching the nail art brush in favor of dotting tools, which are much more precise. Make your ring finger the focal point, by painting hearts in the same color on your ring and index finger, for example, then using a brighter shade on the nail in between to make it pop.
Meanwhile nail vlogger Jenny Claire Fox suggests opting for a pastel palette of mint greens, lilacs, pinks and oranges with a white tip for a fun twist on a classic French manicure. For drawing hearts onto the nail, she stresses the need for a medium-sized dotting tool, to create two dots, and a smaller dotting tool to drag the line down and create the triangular-shaped base.
For a less permanent update to your look, online nail artist vlogger Janelle Estep advises using press-on falsies, to save on drying time and avoid damaging or staining nails. After finding the right sized nail for each finger, you'll need to wash your hands thoroughly and use any enclosed "prep pads" to rid your nail beds of any excess oils. Once the nails are applied they can be filed or clipped into your preferred shape, provided that you leave an hour for them to set properly. Estep suggests placing foil strips horizontally across the nail for a modern geometric approach to Valentine's Day nails. Again, she advises choosing a 'feature nail', applying glitter to its surface liberally, following a layer of topcoat to help it stick.
