Maintaining Uric Acid Levels Key To Preventing Gout And Kidney Stones: Medical Expert
Uric acid can be checked through liver function tests, urine tests and other tests.

Uric acid is produced as a byproduct of purine digestion. Purines occur naturally in the body and can also be found in certain foods, such as meats, seafood, and alcoholic beverages. But, if uric acid quantity exceeds normal, it starts accumulating in the small joints of our hands and feet. Due to this, many serious problems including gout and kidney stones arise. Generally, people keep ignoring the problem of uric acid and due to this, it reaches dangerous levels. Today, let us take a look at what the normal uric acid level is in men and women.

According to reports, Dr Amarendra Pathak, Senior Consultant, Urology Department, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, said in a media interaction that uric acid is a product produced in our liver, which passes through the kidneys and comes out through urine. The normal range of uric acid in men and women is slightly different. The uric acid level of adult women is between 2.5 to 6 mg/dL. On the other hand, a uric acid level of 3.5 to 7 mg/dL in adult men is considered normal.

Doctor Amarendra Pathak further said that if the uric acid of a man exceeds 7mg/dL, it is called hyperuricemia. Whereas in the case of women, if uric acid exceeds 6mg.dL, it can be considered high. During this condition, people need to control uric acid. If the uric acid level crosses 9-10, one should immediately consult a urologist because this level can be dangerous and can cause the problem of gout. Even though people do not take uric acid seriously, it can prove fatal if it increases beyond limits.

Do you know which test should be done to find out the uric acid level?

As per a urologist, one can find out the level of uric acid through a D test. Uric acid is also detected in liver function tests. Not only this, one can also check uric acid levels through urine tests. There are many other tests which detect uric acid and people should get it tested at least once a year so that it can be prevented from increasing.
