With the upcoming edition of Amazon India Fashion Week AW’17, the city will officially be living and experiencing fashion once again. FDCI brings to fashion connoisseurs, the extravaganza, to celebrate the myriad of indigenous handlooms and textiles from across the country.
To be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the fashion gala that spans over 4 days instead of the usual 5-day routine, promises to stay true to Indian ethos. 71 ace designers are set to pay homage to weavers with the collections, each exquisite and piquant, in its own way.
“The FDCI and its designers want to amplify creativity and infuse fresh energy through the medium of textiles and subtle minimalism, which have been a tour de force in the Indian design ideology. Like always, this year too, the event will be multifaceted, as we explore the nuanced processes behind the final refinement,” said Sunil Sethi, FDCI President, in an official statement.
Around 13 style aficionados including the likes of Rohit Bal, Aneeth Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rina Singh, Suket Dhir, Urvashi Kaur, Antar Agni, Akaaro will bring to ramp the woven magic of weavers on day 1. Madhu Jain, who completes 30 years in the industry, will take over the runway, followed by Krishna Mehta’s Maheshwari fabrics. Various other prominent names from the industry including Siddarth Tytler, Ashima Leena, Anju Modi, Shivan & Narresh, Vineet Bahl, Anupama Dayal, Rina Dhaka and Pankaj & Nidhi will further galvanize the visitors in the days to follow. The finale show will see, models sashaying down the runway, sporting creations from couturiers Tarun Tahiliani and Amit Aggarwal.
As a special initiative to enrich the partnership with Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW), a show dedicated to Indonesian textiles and techniques, will find its takers too.
AIFW’s ‘Partner State’ this time is Jharkhand, known for its handloom legacy, bringing to limelight the designers’ interpretations of the fabric Tussar. It aims at creating a definitive source of employment for the weavers thereby utilizing the resources available.
Another interesting feature of the event will be the Sari-torial – highlighting 55 modish narratives of the traditional drape.
Samant, known for his experiments with Bhagalpur silk, will enliven the National Railway Museum with his show titled ‘Golden Threads Of Assam’ while Pero’s Aneeth Arora has chosen the Crafts Museum to showcase her unpretentious and easy-going lineup.
Much of Bollywood’s glamour quotient has been kept under wraps so far but Alia Bhatt’s presence for Namrata Joshipura’s New York-inspired show is confirmed.
Menswear, too, is being given a high-end treatment this time. The finale day will see the likes of Dhruv Vaish, Kommal and Ratul Sood, Abhishek, Pawan Sachdeva, Rohit Kamra and Sahil Aneja presenting their suave collections.
