When a Man with Gun Breached Green Park Security And Got Close to Sachin Tendulkar During Kanpur Test
The Green Park in Kanpur came under scrutiny after a day's play of India's 2nd Test against Bangladesh was abandoned despite no rain but nearly 20 years ago, it grabbed the national attention for a scary incident.

India completed a dramatic win in the Kanpur Test on Tuesday against Bangladesh despite two full days being lost to rain and a damp field. The Green Park stadium came under close scrutiny as the field was deemed unfit for any play on the third day of the contest despite not a single drop of rain falling. This was after a stand was closed for the public following reports that it has been declared unsafe due to weak structural integrity.

The contest though will be remembered for the manner in which Rohit Sharma and Co. managed to eke out a win from a Test which seemed destined for a draw.

Green Park has a history of hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons and one such event transpired nearly two decades.

When a Man with Gun Breached Green Park Security

In November of 2004, during the final day of an India vs South Africa Test here, a youth named Jamal Pasha sneaked past the security of the venue with, wait for it, a “loaded pistol”.

The scary incident unfolded during in the second session of the Test. The man in question entered the venue via a match pass and reportedly attempted to enter the Indian team dressing room first.

Upon failing to do so, Pasha headed towards the media end but then a cameraman spotted him while he was closer to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar who was fielding near fine leg boundary. Having taken a picture of the miscreant with the gun, the cameraman proceeded to inform the police.

In the meantime, Pasha had made his way towards where the press box and the security stationed there sprang into action after being informed and eventually managed to arrest him.

According to media reports, the Pasha was drunk and claimed to be the son of Kanpur Cricket Association president Naimuddin Siddiqui. A .38 calibre revolver was found on him raising a big question mark over the security arrangements.
