New Delhi: Here is a look at the important events that took place around the world on Monday.
Pakistan Lawyers' March
Pakistan's lawyers are assembling in thousands all over the country for a long march on Tuesday.
The march is for the restoration of the judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary. It will pass through cities in Sindh and Balochistan culminating in Islamabad on Thursday.
Unlike last year's, march which was directed against Musharraf, this time there is an elected PPP government which is widely seen to be dragging its feet on restoring the judges.
China Earthquake Aftermath
Chinese troops are trying to prevent a swelling lake in Sichuan province from bursting its banks. Troops were using dynamite and firing short range rockets to carve out a drainage channel where the waters of Lake Tangjiashang could be diverted.
The channel would take the waters away from areas immediately downstream inhabited by more than one million people.
Ukraine Gas Explosion
In Ukraine, rescue teams have found 23 of the 36 miners who were trapped underground after a gas explosion in the Donbass coalfield.
They were brought to the surface through a ventilation shaft. The main shafts couldn't be used because of the damage. Efforts are on to locate those missing.
