BANGALORE: The World AIDS Day campaign at forum on December 1 saw thousands of people lending their support to fight against the killer disease. The event was organised by Forum mall, Koramangala and was supported by bollywood singer Lucky Ali, hockey player Ashish Kumar Ballal, and Dr Manoj from Narayana Hrudayalaya.In the year 1988, the World Health Organisation observed this day to focus on decreasing the epidemic of AIDS by creating and initiating individuals to talk about it and spread the preventive measures for a better life.AIDS one of the most destructive diseases of all times, killed around 25 million people between the year 1981 and 2007, out of which 27,000 were children and at present an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide are living with HIV, despite several measures and access to treatment in many regions of the world. “In fact, AIDS Day is the awareness day and in India, there are around 65 lakh people living with HIV. This shows the progress in our fight against the dreadful disease,” said Dr Manoj.Lucky Ali, who lend his support for the cause said, “Just hold on to our values and let us not forget them for short term pleasures.” The staff of Forum and the supporters lit up 2000 candles, in the shape of red ribbon, stating that it was their way to destroy the ignorance, create awareness and come out of the dark. However the highlight of the event was a street play presented by the students of Christ University. A huge number of people gathered at the mall and made the event a successful affair.
