CHITTOOR: A 64-year-old widow has approached the Madanapalle II Additional magistrate's court on Monday, petitioning for mercy killing of her 36-year-old invalid son. M Lakshmamma of Danduvaripalle pleaded that the court direct the government to bear expenditure of medical treatment of her son M Janardhan and provide financial aid. If that was not possible, she said, the judge should permit mercy killing of her son as she was unable to bear the suffering any longer.
Janardhan completed his aeronautical engineering in 1996 and got job in Australia. He went to Bengaluru to get a visa and while returning home to his native village, got gravely injured in a road mishap near Bengaluru. In the accident, he suffered head and spinal injuries and has been rendered invalid since then.For the past 16 years, he is bed ridden and is dependent on others for even basic bodily needs. His father Ramachandraiah, died of grief 10 years back and since than, Lakshmamma is looking after her son with her meagre earnings as a daily wage earner and financial help from philanthropists.
