BANGALORE: A 27-year-old woman was burnt alive at her residence near Varthur market on Tuesday noon. It is suspected that she was set ablaze by her father-in-law.The victim Vijaya Lakshmi was married to Raja Kannan, a web designer in a private firm. The Madurai native couple had an intercaste marriage about one-and-a-halfyear ago. The couple had recently shifted to the city since Kannan's parents had opposed their marriage, the police said.On Tuesday morning, Kannan's father Nagarajan and Lakshmi had a verbal spat, and the former allegedly hit her and dragged her to bathroom where he allegedly set her on fire and fled.Neighbours saw Nagarajan running out of the house, while there was smoke coming from the house, police further explained."They found her burnt alive in the bathroom. The couple's three-month-old baby was unconscious due to smoke and they shifted the baby to a hospital. Kannan has also made a statement suspecting the role of his father behind the murder," the police added.Varthur police have registered a murder case and are on the lookout for Nagarajan, who is absconding.
