Winter chill sets in

ROURKELA: Sundargarh town recorded minimum temperature of 13.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday night, ushering in winter chill in Sundargarh district. Thick fog enveloped in several areas of the district in the wee hours, pointing to the severe winter. Rourkela city, surrounded by concrete jungles, was relatively warmer on Wednesday recording a minimum temperature of 16.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 33.2 degrees Celsius. The chill was felt in the hilly terrains of Tensa in Bonai sub-division with simultaneous fall in maximum and minimum temperatures which were recorded at 23.8 degree Celsius and 16.6 degrees respectively. Tensa records freezing point during peak winter.The winter has propelled demand for woollen garments and other winter wear at Sundargarh town. With  cold conditions set to grip the district in the ensuing days, Tibetan vendors at the makeshift market  are seeing an increase in footfalls and hope that the demand for their warm clothes would rise. Big and small outlets in the main market of Rourkela city are gradually picking  business, said garment vendor Monu Sharma.
