Betul: Announcing a zero-tolerance policy, Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday said he would put contractors beneath bulldozers if he finds anomalies in the construction of roads.
Gadkari, who was attending an event in Betul alongside Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, asked the people of MP to cross check the quality of roads being built.
“Whichever contractors are building roads here never come to New Delhi and not a single rupee could be attributed to corruption in the road construction,” claimed the union minister.
“I have already told contractors I would put them under bulldozers if any corruption is found in road-making.”
The minister further claimed that there was no dearth of funds in the country, only technology and proper working in the right direction was needed.
Addressing the media. Gadkari said that he had repeatedly proved his non-belief in mere talking.
“A lot of people talked about extirpating poverty in the country but nothing happened. Political parties made people fight over caste and religion but PM Narendra Modi and our government is not working on the basis of religion,” said the former BJP chief adding that they are working for the poor. “We will make sure farmers prosper and youth find employment,” he said.
Crumbling roads, along with scarcity of electricity and water (Sadak, Bijli, Paani) had played a pivotal role in the ouster of the Digvijaya Singh-led Congress government from power in 2003. However, the state government is having sleepless nights after reports of potholes filled roads hogged the limelight in the last one year.
Following desperate pleas from CM Shivraj, Gadkari has in the past released special funds for improvement of roads in Madhya Pradesh.
