Unable to bear the embarrassment and insult of CBI raid, the wife and daughter of Director General (DG) Corporate Affairs BK Bansal committed suicide at their Madhu Vihar home in the capital on Tuesday.
Wife Satyabala (58) and daughter Neha (27) were found dead at their residence at 11:30 am. Two suicide notes have been found. Police are, however, verifying the suicide notes.
The suicide note said the wife and daughter of Bansal felt insulted after the CBI raid.
Expressing grief over the death, CBI released an official statement.
"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident. It may be mentioned here that both the deceased were neither accused nor questioned or summoned in the ongoing investigation. The matter is being looked into by the local police", the statement read.
BK Bansal, director general of the ministry of corporate affairs, who was dealing with matters related to alleged violations by a Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company, was arrested on charges of bribery.
Bansal, who was detained by sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday while allegedly receiving the second lot of the bribe amount, was arrested on Sunday.
Bansal had been dealing with matters regarding alleged violations committed by Elder Pharmaceutical, a Mumbai based company.
Bansal allegedly had demanded a bribe of Rs. 50 lakh for not recommending an investigation by the SFIO (Serious Fraud Investigation Office) against the company.
Elder Pharmaceuticals had reportedly floated debentures and fixed deposits under some clause of the Companies Act.
They had raked in more than Rs 176 crore from over 4,000 investors and later they didn't pay the interest, using the money to float other companies.
