BANGALORE: Dejected over the “injustice” over her husband’s murder case, slain farmer Siddalinga Prabhu’s wife Mamatha tried to kill herself by consuming sleeping tablets.A resident of Somapura, Mamatha attempted suicide at her residence in the wee hours of Friday. Mamatha has been admitted to Shreya Hospital where she is in ICU and her condition is still critical.According to the police, Mamatha was reportedly depressed after her husband’s murder and she was upset as NICE MD Ashok Kheny and Rudresh, who are accused in her husband’s murder case, were not yet arrested.Eventually, she consumed about 25 sleeping pills. Her neighbour learnt of this and immediately shifted her to a private hospital. “She had written a note before consuming the pills in which she stated that she could not live without her husband and she could not tolerate the alleged injustice being done to her by not arresting Kheny and Rudresh. Further, she stated that she should be buried next to her husband and requested her relatives to take care of her one-and-half-year-old son,” police added.Meanwhile, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda visited her at the hospital. Later, speaking to reporters he urged for a CBI probe into the matter. “I had held a protest on November 4, condemning the murder and demanding the arrest of Kheny and Rudresh. Even Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda had assured of stringent action against the accused. But nothing has been done till now. I will stage a hunger strike on November 22 in front of M G Statue against this injustice, ” he added.Farmer Siddalinga Prabhu, who had reportedly taken part in protests against NICE, was found murdered in a ditch near Green Valley School on Kanakapura Road, on October 17. In connection with the murder, the Thalagattapura police had arrested five persons. Protests were held by farmers demanding arrest of Kheny and Rudresh, for allegedly conspiring the murder.
