CHENNAI: You thought the tale in The Old Testament about David humbling the mighty Goliath was just a figment of imagination? Archaeological findings in Israel suggest that a man as huge as Goliath could have been a reality. In an exhibition here on Christ and Krishna, an archaeological journey, held by the Indian Science Monitor, you could find more enchanting information about the hidden secrets of a distant age, beyond the images of excavations of skeletons corresponding to the size of Goliath as per the Biblical account. The expo showcases milestones in the arduous effort to find corroborative evidence to the narratives found in the Bible and the Mahabaratha. Excavations of human bones which strongly suggest the ancient practice of crucifixion, an ossuary, menorah relic, books on codices, inscription attributed to the reign of King David are among the exhibits related to Bible and the era of Christ. The expo also showcases the developments in locating the ancient city of Dwaraka, the place of Sri Krishna and several findings that provide corroboration to certain narratives found in Mahabaratha. For instance, Dwaraka, is referred to as ‘Shrankodhara’ suggesting a town where shells are omnipresent. Recent excavation of shells from the same region provide credence to the observations found in the great Indian epic. Unicorn, a seal from Dwaraka and secrets of the Gulf of Cambay which even today is believed to have remains of ancient buildings, belonging to the reign of Sri Krishna, are featured. Speaking to City Express, TKV Rajan of ISM said that the mortal remains of Krishna and Christ were not found. “Archaeologists are however able to identify several historical sites that are associated with these messiahs. The spade of archaeologists has reached the towns and villages mentioned in the Bible in Eastern Mediterranean and Egypt besides several others,” he said. (The exhibition will be held from Feb 18 to 20 at Gallery Sri Parvathi, Alwarpet. For details call TKV Rajan, 09380554557.)
