CHENNAI: Volkswagen launched its IPL edition cars in the city on Tuesday. Looking to continue its success from the previous year, when it sold an IPL edition Vento, its aim is to join the cricket fever and be part of one of India’s most successful and far reaching franchises. Cricket is the blood of every Indian, so it’s good to associate ourselves with the sport, said Neeraj Garg, director of Volkswagen passenger cars, while speaking at an interactive session with the press during the launch. This year, the special editions of Vento and Polo will sport the IPL logo on parts of the body, in the door sill and will come with two tone leather seats. A key feature of these special cars is that they would come up with an interactive multimedia car pad, which will allow occupants to connect to the Internet and keep track of their favourite teams and important matches. The accessories will be available only for the Polo and the Vento in the highline and trendline models at no extra cost till the matches get over. However, those who wish to show their allegiance to their favourite teams will have to shell out for the merchandise on their own, as the branding remains neutral on the vehicles. “We are not associating ourselves with any specific team or player. Our aim is to be a part of the IPL experience,” said Neeraj. The cars, which will also be on display at the stadiums during the matches, will remain the same in terms of performance and underpinnings. Neeraj Garg informed that last year, Volkswagen had sold more than 2,000 cars during the IPL season.
