Srinagar: Violent protests have once again rocked Srinagar with residents of Maisuma locality in the Jammu and Kashmir capital protesting the death of student.
Six days after a youth went missing here leading to violent protests, his throat-slit body was recovered on Wednesday, official sources said. The dead body was recovered from the Malkhah-Sheikh colony falling under Rainawari police station.
Asrar Mushtaq Dar, a second year student of Islamia College hailing from Maisuma locality, went missing on July 3 when the area witnessed a violent clash between police and stone-pelting mobs.
As the news of recovery of the body of the missing youth reached Maisuma, people came on roads wailing and beating their chests.
Shopkeepers downed their shutters as youths enforced a strike in the locality and adjoining areas.
Police had to fire tear gas at the protestors in the Lal Chowk area in which four protestors were injured.
Traffic, too, had to be stopped in several places in an effort to control the rioting mobs.
Police had filed a missing report in this connection.
Earlier, there were massive protests following the rape and murder of two women in Shopian.
