KHAMMAM: Over 70 SC families of Arekodu village in the district deserted the village fearing ill-effects after the murder of a person in the village.According to information, one Arempula Srinivas (48) was allegedly hacked to death by his wife Alivelu and son Suresh last week in the village. Believing it to be a human sacrifice, the villagers were apprehensive of the ill-effects it could have on their lives and fled the village. They are taking shelter in a school and a church on the outskirts of the village.It is learnt that the villagers consulted a priest after the murder of Srinivas. He advised them to vacate their houses for a month to save themselves from the ill-effects.Believing his words, all of them, including the village elders vacated the village.A village elder Nageswara Rao said that it was a common practice among them and they have been following it for several years. They were not ready to face the ill effects of the death by staying back in the village against the customs and traditions, he said.Nageswara Rao said they would usually take shelter in the fields. But since it is a rainy season, they are staying in the school.Meanwhile revenue officials tried to convince them to go back to their houses, but in vain.
