BANGALORE: Four prominent artists, Basuki Dasgupta, Dhananjaya, G Subramanian, and Shyamal Mukherjee, join forces for this inspired show, on view at city-based gallery Kynkyny Art from April 14 to May 5. The Kynkyny Mix, an exciting group show, which deconstructs urban life using themes, cues and perspectives from folk art will be held. Through symbolism, myth, age-old legends and imagery from the natural world, The Kynkyny Mix cleverly combines indigenous traditions with leading edge art practices in wholly refreshing and unexpected ways. So mighty Hindu gods turn into playful figures fashioned out of magazine cutouts, popular brand names run amok in pristine pastoral settings, traditional figures are portrayed as wry caricatures and folksy narratives take on a decidedly abstract twist in the hands of Dasgupta, Dhananjaya, Mukherjee and Subramanian. Together, they weave a beautifully wrought and hypnotic show that is as warm, vibrant and timeless as it is ironic, complex and contemporary. Mixed media works created in the fluid spaces where bygone cultural mores clash with modern values, mysticism collides with consumerism, city life encroaches into natural habitats and tribal art intermingles with new-fangled ideas and techniques, chart the course of present-day human beings as they negotiate through their tricky inner and outer worlds.
