Dehradun: Ousted Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Tuesday welcomed the High Court's order on a floor test in the Assembly saying it was a lesson to those who were trying to "dislodge" his government.
"I am satisfied that the High Court has given a befitting lesson those elements which are trying to dislodge our government unconstitutionally. We respect the orders and directions of the Nainital High Court," said at a press conference.
"Our fight is not against any person but the powers which are out to demolish the Constitutional institutions. Such powers have received a tremendous setback," Rawat said while attacking the Modi dispensation in the wake of the verdict.
He said Uttarakhand has already suffered a "jolt" and "deep wounds" in the form of defections but other opposition-ruled states will be saved from the Centre's designs.
"After this (court verdict), there will be a stop on attempts to destabilise other opposition ruled state governments," he said.
The remarks came shortly after the HC ordered a floor test in the Assembly on March 31, giving a new
turn to the political events in the state where President's Rule was imposed on Sunday.
The Centre, according to sources, will challenge the order in the Supreme Court.
According to the HC order all MLAs, including the nine ruling Congress rebels, can participate in the trial of strength but the votes of the disqualified legislators will be kept separate.
They will be taken into account subject to final outcome of the writ filed petition by Chief Minister Harish Rawat challenging the imposition of President's Rule, senior Supreme Court lawyer and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters after the second day of the hearing.
