Patna: A woman, who claimed to be the first wife of Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan, created a scene at the upmarket Maurya Hotel in Patna on Friday.
The woman, Ranjana, defied the hotel's security guards and tried to force her entry into room 401, where the singer was staying. She claimed she had married Udit Narayan in 1984 when he was little known.
The singer left the hotel soon after the incident. Ranjana, who seemed to have told news channels that she would visit the hotel, knocked at the room door several times but wasn’t let in.
"I have come here to seek justice. He kept me in the dark about his second marriage with Deepa for years and now I have come to seek my rightful place," she told journalists at the hotel.
She had photographs which she claimed showed the singer with her. When asked why she had raised the issue now, Ranjana said: "Whenever I threatened to go public about our marriage, he silenced me by threatening suicide. Now I have no fears and I will take legal recourse."
"Look, the man has no courage to come out and speak to me. He is in the room with his second wife," as she kept knocking on the door.
Narayan denied denied the woman's allegations. "I don't know this woman and I have never met her before. These are attempts to malign me," he said.
"I had got threatening calls four-five years ago but I did not pay heed. I was under the impression that this was common occurrence with artistes," he said.
Narayan, who was in Patna to attend his niece's wedding, said he would lodge a report with police after consulting his lawyers in Mumbai.
Narayan, best known for giving voice to Aamir Khan's numbers, started his career as a singer in Nepal. He has also starred in a popular Nepali film, Kusume Rumal (Silk Kerchief).
