KOCHI: Government Chief Whip PC George by raking up controversial statements has put the government in a fix with the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) finding it hard to bridle the leader from making such statements. Though the UDF leaders have accepted that George should not have made such defaming statements, the Front is yet to take a concrete decision to rein in the leader. UDF convener P P Thankachan said he would meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on the George issue and take a decision at the earliest. On the initiative to be taken as the Front convener, Thankachan said that a decision could be taken only after consulting everyone. “The meeting can be called only after getting the opinion of various leaders,” he said.“I am not a person who agrees with George’s opinion. As a senior leader, he should have controlled his words,” Thankachan said and added that the leaders should have to maintain self-control.A Congress leader on condition of anonymity said: The time has surpassed for George to be bridled as he has gone too far with his controversial tongue. “The leader continued that if the situation persists, George would become a headache for the UDF.”In the recent episode, George had ridiculed Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan. He not only lashed out against Achuthanadan but also came out against two of the ruling MLAs - T N Prathapan and V D Satheesan. George had said that if his statements were making headaches for the two MLAs, then let them take medicine.
