Two women labourers were killed when a boundary wall of railway premises collapsed in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said on Thursday.

Two women labourers were killed when a boundary wall of railway premises collapsed in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said on Thursday.

The mishap occurred when the victims were working in an under-construction apartment in Govind Nagar of Sirgitti area on Wednesday on the other side of the railway premises boundary wall, Bilaspur Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Pandey said. According to the ASP, a four-storey apartment was being constructed by builder Rajeev Sultania in Govind Nagar.

As many as five women were shifting the sand dumped close to the boundary wall between civil area and railway premises, to the construction site on Wednesday. Suddenly, the wall collapsed and victims got trapped under the debris. The locals immediately extricated the victims out of debris and by the time police also reached the spot.

Labourer Santoshi Bai (35) died on the spot while Janaki Bai (60) succumbed to her injuries on her way to the hospital, ASP said. The rest three women escaped unhurt in the incident.

A case has been registered in this connection and contractor of the under-construction apartment, Satish Sonwani, has been arrested, he said adding, search was on for the builder. The district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 each to the kin of the deceased.
